An attractive Regency sarcophagus shaped mahogany veneered tea caddy with inlaid mother of pearl decoration, glass mixing bowl and original working lock and key, circa 1820.
The mother of pearl inlay is to the front and top and includes a diamond shaped escutcheon. The lid lifts, revealing the central glass mixing bowl, contained within its own reservoir, with the two tea compartments on either side, having removable lids with small wooden ebonised button shaped knobs. The mixing bowl has a ground out pontil to the base, which also a small 1cm chip. Other than that, it is in good condition. It sits on four wooden bun feet.
Cleaned, re-waxed and polished. In overall excellent condition.
Measurements: 28.5cm wide, 16.5cm deep, and 20 cm high.

  • Cleaned and restored (where necessary) to a high presentable standard. All you need to do is wipe over with a soft cloth from time to time. Occasionally use a spray furniture polish that contains bees wax, which will maintain its satin sheen. Please don’t use a silicone spray as this could be detrimental to the waxed surface.
