An attractive Victorian mahogany veneered writing slope with inlaid brass decoration, long side drawer, inkwells and an adapted old key that works well in the original lock.
There is a central brass escutcheon on the top which has the engraved name of "H Price" (if that's your name, they'll be an extra charge). The top has brass strung decoration, with a brass escutcheon to the front and with the same brass strung decoration. The top lifts to reveal the writing slope which has been re-lined with a new antiqued green leather skiver with gold tooling. On each side there is a campaign style brass handle that pulls out and folds back flat against the side. On one side, a long drawer can be pulled out, after first removing a brass pin on the side. Both writing slope flaps lift up to enable you to access storage areas beneath. On the underside of the lower flap, there is a criss cross arrangement of green ribbon, which has been newly replaced. This was for keeping business cards, letters etc. At the top end, there is the usual central pen tray with removable pen tilt. To the right of this, is the nib/stamp tray and the brass screw topped inkwells (that look to be original) are in each corner.
There has been an old repair to the veneer at the lower end of the back, but apart from this, the veneer is in very good condition. It has been carefully cleaned, re-waxed and polished and is again in overall excellent condition.
Measurements: 45 cm wide, 25 cm deep and 15 cm high.

Victorian Writing Slope with Side Drawer, Inkwells and Key, circa 1880

Cleaned and restored (where necessary) to a high standard. All you need to do is wipe over with a soft cloth from time to time. Occasionally use a spray furniture polish that contains bees wax, which will maintain its satin sheen. Please don’t use a silicone spray as this could be detrimental to the waxed surface.
